We certainly aren't a resort but our guests have found it very difficult to do the touring they had planned.
They report that they find "just staying put" really terrific. Here is a sample of reviews:

The Maui Pole House was perfect for our stay. The property is as breathtakingly beautiful as the photos suggest. It's proximity to Haiku Mill (an equally beautiful site), where our daughter was married, was ideal. A beautiful and well appointed kitchen, the pool and spa, the expansive deck (affording bird watching and spectacular views), the tastefully furnished living and bedroom spaces, the attentive caretakers, - all contributed to a stellar experience. We can't wait to return!

We are so grateful for the time we have been able to spend in this beautiful sanctuary of Beauty - Peace & Harmony - Everything inside this dwelling is purposely arranged. All of the landscaping outdoors & even the design of the pool & inspirational statues nurture peace - balance & freedom. Maui is most likely part of God's greatest handiwork on the Earth - Being able to stay in this wonderful home - cared for so lovingly by Alain & Elisabeth has been a great blessing. We are physically leaving 160 Nahele road refreshed, renewed & inspired - however part of our hearts will remain in this beautiful place forever. Mahalo for letting your inspiration become the fulfillment of one of our dreams.

Words cannot express how amazing our stay here has been spending 11 days exploring all the beauty & wonder of Maui, mostly East Maui, with my mother, brother & sister and their families, and my husband and girls has been a dream come true. Best of all was having this special home away from home here at Maui Pole House! Thank you dear home owners for sharing this jewel! And a special thanks to Alain & Elizabeth for their graciousness & availability when needed. Hope to return again someday!

Our entire family came to Maui for the very first time this year. We all loved it - the ocean, beaches, the road to Hana, the whales, the flowers and trees... The house was perfect as there were 8 of us + 2 baby boys. The lanai, the pool and hot tub and beautiful yard to enjoy. We had many fun times around the dining table and in the pool. We all hope we can come back again!

How blessed were we, to spend time at such a beautiful place. We couldn't have asked for more! You have a beautiful home and those of us that have the opportunity to stay here are lucky, lucky, lucky! When folks back home ask me where we stayed I will tell them we stayed in 'Shangri-La'. Respectfully,

The Pole House did not disappoint! We made ourselves at home here amongst the geckos, birds and other wildlife - each day blissful. After the day's adventures and exploring of Maui it was such a treat to come back 'home'. Thank you and we look forward to another visit in the future.

As promised in our note dated June 27 2008 we were fortunate to return to the Pole House! This trip to Maui was a celebration for several milestone: birthdays, graduation, anniversary and retirement... all successfuly celebrated in style. Once again, a good time was had by all. Thank you again for sharing your bit of paradise with us!

Great choice for our 50th wedding anniversary and 70th birthday. Beautiful location for our family being reunited from England, Australia, California, Oregon and Maui. We will remember it forever. Thanks and best wishes,

Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. We celebrated family, friendship and a 40th birthday this week in the tropical sunshine. We enjoyed lazy days by the pool and ultra-competitive cut throat rounds of croquet late afternoon. All in all, a wonderful time was had by each of us and we will take many sun-drenched and happy memories back to Canada.

We were fortunate enough to get to stay at the Pole House for 5 days in late October. We had come from a short stay in Ka'anapali and knew from the moment we drove through the front gate that the Haiku Pole House would need to be part of every future trip to Maui. The grounds are beautiful and make you feel as if you are experiencing the "quintessential" Hawaiian way. Coconut palms, tropical flowers, geckos and a wide variety of birds all add to the experience. The house is so welcoming and well equipped, with all needs anticipated, that you cannot quite believe that the owners are willing to share this home with all. There is beautiful local art on the walls and the Koa kitchen is a piece of art in itself. It took a moment for us to get used to living in the tropics as the geckos make an immediate appearance to welcome you but once we made the adjustment of "living in the tropics", we hardly noticed any of our initial "pauses" and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We drove to the Haiku Mall for dinner at Colleen's and donuts on a stick in the town of Makawoa but other than that we stayed and enjoyed the pool and hot tub, reading on the lower deck among the tropical flowers, and playing card games on the porch enjoying the gulch/ocean view. I left the Pole House with gratitude in my heart that the owners of this home were so generous to share their Hawaiian mecca with our family.

Gorgeous Maui, right outside my favorite island town of Pa'ia. This place is really well done, elegant, functional, comfortable & exceeded our expectations in every way. The accommodations are perfect... pool, hot-tub, views, convenience & a beautiful kitchen for anyone who enjoys cooking (the best organic food store on all the islands is 5 minutes away in Pa'ia... big bonus). There are also great local restaurants. The grounds up-keepers are lovely, helpful & considerate. We'll certainly return as often as we can... I would give everything about this property the highest rating.

Me and 4 other girlfriends plus 1 incredible husband had a little get away to Maui in April 2010. Staying at the Pole House was a giant cherry on top of out very sweet escape to the islands. This home is just wonderful. The very best part was the privacy! We might as well of been the last 6 people on the planet. We ate, we drank, we danced, we even sang songs while splashing in the pool. Hands down the best trip ever! Since we've returned home, there has been several times that the words to "Hear Comes the Sun" just pop out of our mouths at random. We cannot wait till the day comes that we can go again. We LOVED it!! Best of the best on Maui!!!

We stayed at this property for over 10 days in Feb/March 2010. It is an awesome experience. Their were 9 guests with one child. Ages range from five to sixty five. Something for everyone. The house is fully stocked. Just buy some food and bring your clothes and you don't have to leave. Right off Hana Highway and not to far from Mamas Fish House. Would go back again. Loved the fact that it was more rural and not in a tourist area. The ocean view was awesome and the yard is gorgeous. The pool is as big as some hotel pools to give you an idea of what you are getting and the hot tub is awesome especially at night with all the lights and tiki torches lit. Great experience in Maui and also if you have to go to business meetings not to far for driving. Highly recommended this property for a large group and big age range!

Our family (my husband, mother-in-law, 12 and 9 year old children and myself) stayed at this great vacation home for 4 nights while visiting friends in Haiku. It was beyond my expectations. The house was conveniently located to many interesting small villages and it wasn't a long drive to the volcano or to the lavender farm. Nice beaches are about a 10-15 minute drive away. The grounds were lovely, the house was fully stocked and very comfortable and the caretakers were welcoming. The house felt like a house and not a rental. I spent a lot of time fantasizing that it was my own house and feeling very very lucky. The art work in the house was fabulous and the sheets very soft. Lots of birds come to the bird feeder on the veranda throughout the day and the view is serene. Paradise! Our kids didn't want to leave the pool to go sight-seeing - they would have stayed at the house the whole time if it was left up to them. I would definitely stay again.

We have visited Maui many times in the past and haven’t ever traveled from the resort oriented side of the island. Our experience in a private home was nothing like we'd ever experienced before. We often spent our days on the beach and in the past dreaded coming back to the hotel. This home made us want to come back. After a day at the beach there was still beauty to be enjoyed back home, something we'd never had before. We came to celebrate the graduation of my son from college and daughter from high school. They each brought a friend and had the time of there lives relaxing and giving there minds a well deserved break. We can't wait to come again, as long as our high pace life here on the mainland permits. Thank you so much for sharing a piece of paradise with our family and friends, the memories will last a life time.

It is hard to start when anything I write will be an understatement. While the guys started with three days on Mauna Kea, on the Big Island, the girls warmed up this magnificent home! This is our third trip to the islands and this house is by far the best we have experienced. Simply Marvelous! Good friends, good places, it just doesn't get any better!

"We wanted to let your readers know that your beautiful home was exactly what we had hoped for on our recent trip to Maui. Your love of the islands is obvious in the touches you have incorporated into your home. We would not hesitate to recommend your home as a rental to all interested in a relaxing alternative to the high volume tourist areas of Ka'anapali and Lahaina. Your home and the area of Paia and Haiku truly reflect the 'old' Hawaii we all long to recapture. Thanks again, it was WONDERFUL in every way."
"We wanted to express our appreciation to both of you (and to your readers) for your willingness to share your home. I know you receive a lot of praise for the house itself (certainly deserving), but we wanted to thank the people that made it such a great place to stay. We had been planning this vacation for several months and wanted to stay somewhere special. Your home certainly provided that. We're glad that we were able to return your graciousness by leaving everything in a good condition for you. We hope that your generosity continues as we'd love to come back and stay there again. Mahalo!" Ann and Joe Preiss
"Our group wishes to thank you both for the most enjoyable time we had at your home in Maui. It truly lived up to the information shown on the internet. We appreciated your thoughtfulness in giving us additional information as well as all the amenities included in the home. Maui is certainly a beautiful island and we tried to see all the main highlights. Again, thank you and we will be sure to pass on to others that your home is an ideal place to stay."
